The day of cash and carry for groceries — and apparently almost anything else — may be going the way of the eight-track with 43% of Americans polled by Rasmussen Reports saying they have gone through a week without using any cash.
Of the 1,000 adults Rasmussen surveyed April 9-10, 40% said they usually use a debit card for groceries, 22% a credit card, 8% pay with a personal check and 5% use some other form of payment. Only 24% pay cash.
Diners at restaurants also now favor debit cards with 32% paying for their meal with one while 29% use a credit card. About 1% pay for their food with a check, and 3% use some other method. Cash covers the remainder.
Two out of three movie-goers still use cash but 19% use a debit card, 11% pay with a credit card, 1% write a check. And 3% pay some other way.
